Youth Director
Job Posting

Covenant Presbyterian Church, located in Manassas, Virginia, is currently seeking a full-time “Youth Director”. This individual should be a committed Christian, living a Christian lifestyle, and can explain their faith to any who ask. Duties will include the planning/leading of biblical based lessons, retreats, small group activities, fellowship events, games, and other events for youth between 6th and 12th grade.

The group has shown steady growth over the last few years, with the anticipation of a significant increase in size within the next couple of years. Our church is 50 years old and six months ago had the joy of relocating to a brand new site. Attendance for Sunday worship services has increased by 100% in this short period of time. Information about FUMC:

After several trips through the wilderness on horseback and after having to preach in a barn, Methodist Bishop Francis Asbury recommended to the people of Clarksburg station that they should build a church. The year was 1788, and that first church was made of logs. Many years and buildings have passed, but FUMC has been a source of healing and hope for the citizens of Clarksburg ever since.

Presently, FUMC of Clarksburg has an active congregation whose members and youth participate in a variety of weekly activities. These include the youth-focused Breakaway Café followed by All in the Family each Wednesday night. Church school begins each Sunday at 9:30 AM. The Youth also meet on Sunday nights at 5:30 pm for choir practice followed by recreation time and ministry in the Safe Room.

Worship is central to the FUMC Clarksburg experience. The pastors, lay leaders, music staff and Chancel Choir are dedicated to leading meaningful and uplifting worship experiences. Our regular worship service is at 10:45 AM every Sunday morning. Communion is served the first Sunday of each month.

In a recent survey (February 2008), the congregation was asked about the church’s greatest strengths concerning youth ministry. The following are a few of the answers youth, parents, members and leaders provided:

• Supportive parents
• Supportive staff
• Great facility including gymnasium and large kitchen
• Opportunity for ministry / outreach in a downtown setting
• Volunteer support
• An atmosphere conducive to youth activities
• Opportunity to serve in a city full of youth disconnected to church and often family
• Financial support
• Healthy network of local churches engaged in youth ministry
• Great focal point for urban mission work

Information about Clarksburg, WV:

Clarksburg was incorporated by the Virginia Assembly in 1785 after settlers in this north-central part of (West) Virginia named the hamlet in honor of George Rogers Clark sometime between 1778 and 1781. The city now has about 18,000 citizens and is located at the center of West Virginia's Interstate-79, High-Tech Corridor.

Educational opportunities abound in the area including a campus of Fairmont State University located in Clarksburg. Other nearby institutions of higher learning include West Virginia University, Salem International University, Alderson-Broaddus College, and West Virginia Wesleyan College.

The city of Clarksburg is one of the largest in the region. Historically, the community was a rich industrial leader with three major glass factories and a regional warehousing center. The city remains financially viable due to significant retail enterprises on the edge of the city near I-79. However, much of the downtown, where the church is located, is in need of economic revitalization and community development. The potential for a dynamic community-changing youth ministry at FUMC is substantial.

Procedure for Application:

Please send a one-page resume and a one-page double-spaced essay via (snail) mail by April 15, 2008 detailing your ability to fulfill the responsibilities and expectations outlined above. A pool of candidates will be selected for telephone interviews with the search committee. After a thorough background check, the top candidates will be invited on an all expense paid trip to Clarksburg for a personal interview, which will include formal meetings with various committees, an informal gathering with youth, a teaching demonstration with youth and the search committee, a meeting with parents, and a belching demonstration. (Candidates who are belch-impaired are still welcome to apply, as we are more concerned with issues of character, integrity, relationality and love!)

Executive Director, Jubilee Boys Ranch, Prescott, WA

The Executive Director of Jubilee Youth Ranch and Christian Academy will work directly with the
Jubilee Board of Trustees. The Executive Director will give direction and support to the Jubilee
Operations Director, Academy Principal, and Development staff and will relate closely to all of
Jubilee's constituencies.
Primary roles and responsibilities will include:
 Embodying Jubilee's Management Philosophy. The Executive Director must embrace a
management style as exemplified by the biblical precept of servant leadership.* He/she must
be a transparent team builder with a compassion for the broken and a clear understanding of
their own brokenness. He/she must have the management skills to encourage change and to
implement alignment with the Jubilee Boards Vision.
 Articulating the Jubilee vision. The Executive Director must serve as “keeper of the
Jubilee vision,” clarifying and articulating the vision and scope of Jubilee's ministry to all
Jubilee staff, referring parties, students and families, volunteers, and present and future
ministry supporters.
 Developing the financial resource engine for Jubilee's ministry. While the Jubilee staff
may include a development person, the Executive Director must oversee the successful
implementation of a local and national long-term plan to fund the current needs and future
growth of Jubilee's ministry.
 Overseeing the promotion of Jubilee's ministry and the admission of students to the
Youth Ranch and Christian Academy. In a more extensive way, the work and mission of
Jubilee needs to be communicated so that it reaches people looking for a solid Christian
opportunity for a troubled youth in their care.
 Networking with other youth programs, executive directors, and associations. Jubilee
needs broader connections to similar programs in order to learn from others and share its
practices. The Executive Director will see that Jubilee's senior leadership also becomes well
networked and widely familiar with other professionals working with troubled youth.
 Nurturing good relations with Jubilee's key constituents. This involves multiple forms of
communication and travel and involved both giving and receiving activities. The work at
Jubilee has the ability to bless those involved with the ministry.
 Modeling a life that loves and honors God. While the Executive Director must faithfully
run the business side of Jubilee, he or she must also possess pastoral gifts and qualities. Every
youth, staff, visitor, volunteer, and supporter of Jubilee must sense and benefit from the
Christ-following life and words of the Executive Director.

 Running the ministry in such a way that the ministry pleases God and the program and
operation pleases God, the auditors, accreditation boards, and inspectors. This involves
implementation of a clear strategy, adherence to Jubilee's core values, meeting or exceeding
industry standards and best practices, good hiring, supervision, and retention of quality staff,
and a close walk with God.
Also, s/he should have a high energy level, excellent health, and a readiness to take on a significant
challenge. His or her family situation should allow for meeting the demands of this position while
retaining a healthy family rhythm and quality of life.
• (Suggested resources: Greenlead Center for Servant Leadership; The Servant Leader, by James
Autry; From Hero to Host, by Margaret Wheatley; Leading with a Limp, by Dan Allender; and
Common Strength: Building Leaders, Transforming Recovery, by Tom Hill.)

The Challenge
The challenge before the new Executive Director is simply to fulfill the mission of Jubilee Youth
Ranch and Christian Academy.
Providing a Christ-center community where youth can find new beginnings...
This takes a humble servant of God with well-honed leadership skills to tend to a strategic plan that
allows a good ministry to grow in a healthy way so that more and more youth can benefit from their
experience at Jubilee.
The Opportunity
The activities of the Executive Director of Jubilee Youth Ranch and Christian Academy will be guided
by two words: Build and Advance.
Build from what is already in place.
 A wonderful facility is already constructed in a striking setting and location.
 A history of ministry that has been going on for more than a decade.
 A currently senior leadership team that is gifted and committed.
 A dependence on the Lord to sustain and guide this ministry.
Advance Jubilee to new levels of ministry and operations.
 Increase the number of students benefiting from Jubilee.
 Maximize Jubilee's ranch setting for therapy and vocational purposes.
 Develop multiple income and gift streams to increase the funding of Jubilee's work. This
includes sources for tuition, scholarships, operations, and capital projects.
 Foster a professional ethic and environment in all that Jubilee does.
 Move Jubilee to the place that it establishes “Best Practices” for its industry.
The engine behind these two words, Build and Advance, is this: Passion.
 A passion for young men who need a new beginning.
 A passion for the process of restoring wholeness to young men with broken lives, broken
relationships with God, self, and others.
Experience, Abilities, and Credentials
The future Executive Director for Jubilee Youth Ranch and Christian Academy will be a person who:
 Has extensive Christian youth ranch-type experience with troubled kids.
 Has a solid track record of running a highly respected program.
